Société internationale arthurienne

Secondary school teachers’ network

At the IAS President’s initiative, a working group with representatives from several branches (UK, US, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland and Japan, and now Spain as well) have met to set up a secondary school teachers’ branch or arm of the society. Its main aims are to:

  • inspire interest in teaching the Arthurian stories to pupils in secondary schools
  • provide models of engagement (within and outside the curriculum) with texts and ideas from the Arthurian tradition
  • provide a forum for exchange of good practice
  • facilitate continuous professional development, with a view to applying for funding to formalise this initiative

In the first instance the group has set the date for the first international event (online) on 29 March 2025 (10-12 GMT); the aims of the event will be to share models of engagement and facilitate discussion among the participants. Two more events are in the planning for April and May at different times, to suit different time zones, where the lessons of the first and implementation of models for engagement with the Arthurian legends will be discussed further in different formats.
